These carriages were originally built as excursion stock. Separate guard’s and luggage accommodation were provided, the latter carrying 2 tons. The otherwise identical D184 had Commonwealth bogies (Comet kit B7AK). Four were converted to micro-buffets in 1981 with no obvious external alterations apart from signage.
