Description
The 4′ wooden signal arm used in this kit was introduced by the GWR in 1887, and was used for new installations and renewals until the advent of steel arms in 1930. Signals above 26′ used a 5′ arm, and this is the subject of a separate kit.
The signal is now thought to be extinct on Network Rail as the GWR and BR(WR) modernised many by replacing the wooden arm with the steel pattern, and eventually by replacing the whole signal with the tubular steel post type.
