Description
These coaches were the last to feature the shallow (10¼”) window ventilators. They were used as loose vehicles and strengtheners, often coupled to an open third saloon (Comet Models S2BS) They were in service all over the Southern Region. Equipped originally with the Prestall centrally mounted vacuum cylinder and 2′ diameter vacuum reserve cylinder, between 1951 and 1958 they were converted to the more conventional arrangement of two vacuum cylinders with vee hangers. In some cases the original equipment was simply disconnected but retained in place.
