Description
The earliest open firsts to D71 had end doors only, but this product represents one of the two diagrams that had two saloons separated by a cross gangway with centre doors. Seating is arranged 2+1 and there is a two-bay non-smoking saloon at one end. Later batches were fitted with Commonwealth bogies from new. Some were reclassified and renumbered as Restaurant Second Opens in 1976, and again as Second Opens in 1981/2.
